Philosophy of Packing
Cardboard boxes filled to the utmost with our possessions. Packing is an interesting action. It allows us to visit all three states of being: the past, the present, and the future. It is virtually impossible not to visit each of these stages during the course of putting away one's things for a move. Sometimes, we recall certain memories that an object holds that is cataloged in the library of our lives. We travel backwards to the past and relive the scenes that we had forgotten. Then, there are the times that we think about the future. Many of these thoughts are hardly prophetic, but rather, center around wondering if the things we are packing are even going to be needed to the place where we are going. Occasionally, these thoughts evolved into a more thoughtful approach. Packing up and moving is very situational, and the future is what sets this tone. Many times we ponder how the future is going to be for us, and more importantly, are we ready for it. Of course, the present is at hand throughout this all. The stubbed toes on boxes already packed and the tremendous pressure to get in time before leaving. They say packing is hard, especially for those who are on the less organized skill level. Ironically, not only is getting ready for a move taxing on the physical, but it tests us mentally. Along with packing consists of the goodbyes to old friends or family, along with the hellos to the new environment that we find ourselves. On top of it all, we still have to remember to breathe. After all, it's all we can do through it all.
